Life coaching for medical and special needs parents

Are you feeling stuck?  Need help figuring out what’s next or how to balance everything?  Do you feel like you keep getting in your own way?

Life coaching can help you make positive changes in your life.

Life coaches help you reach your personal goals.

We believe in your needs, your desires, and your dreams. Our credentialed life coaches can help you realize them.

Life coaching is an investment in yourself. A good life coach is more than an accountability partner – they also ask the hard questions to help you discover what’s blocking you from reaching your goals.

If you’re ready to understand your thoughts and behaviors and discover true joy and empowerment, a life coach may be right for you.

All our one-on-one service participants go through an initial three-month life coaching program. This program is the first step toward reaching your goals. It also helps our organization learn how we can best support you going forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the most frequently asked questions we receive about life coaching services. If your question isn't answered below, please contact us!

Applicants complete a pre-screening to ensure that they understand the services offered and confirm their eligibility.

Participants must show willingness to be coached by scoring four or greater on a six-point coachabilty scale.

It’s rare for an applicant not to meet these requirements. However, if it does happen you will receive feedback and are eligible to apply again after three months.

Any parent or caregiver of a child with special health care needs who lives in the State of Iowa is eligible to apply.

Our definition comes from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, which defines “special health care needs” as:

“Those who have or are at increased risk for a chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional condition and who also require health and related services of a type or amount beyond that required by children generally.”

The Enneagram combines traditional wisdom with modern psychology to classify individuals as one of nine personality types.  The test takes approximately 40 minutes to complete.  We use this test to provide your coach with some initial insight into what techniques and approaches may work best for you.  We also supply you with a copy of the results for your own reference as you wait to be matched with a coach.

Prescreening is a three-step process.

First: participate in a webinar or interview that clarifies what life coaching is. The webinar may be attended live or as a replay.

Second: complete an official application form.

Third: complete an initial consultation with your prospective coach.

The initial consultation is when you first meet with a coach. It’s important to understand that the coach you initially meet may not be the coach you are paired with. Our coaches work together to recommend participants to each other and to ensure the best fit.

It is possible that you’ll need to complete a second consultation if you are being referred to a different coach. These consultations do NOT count as your coaching sessions and are considered part of the application process.

All of our three-month programs have a $50 registration fee.  Scholarships are available for those who cannot afford the cost.  Registration fees are not requested until you have been matched with a coach and are ready to begin sessions.

$50 does not cover the cost of the services that are being provided, so if you are able, additional donations are greatly appreciated to ensure that we can continue providing our services to those who need them.

You will need to complete a survey prior to starting services.  After four weeks of participation, you will be asked to provide an update.  At the conclusion of your 3-months of coaching you will provide a final review.

The progress reports help us understand how the services are working, provide feedback to coaches, and to determine whether there are additional ways we can support you.

We do our best to prevent this from happening, but coaching is a relationship, and sometimes two people simply aren’t the right match for each other.

If this happens, you may request a new coaching assignment.  Similarly, your coach can request a new placement if they feel they are not the best fit for you.

We may require additional feedback when reassignment is requested to help us improve our services and matching process.

Coaches and participants are expected to have a minimum of eight sessions over three months: four sessions the first month, and two sessions in the following months.

Your availability will be covered in your application. We will pair you with a coach whose availability matches yours.

There may be a wait list for services, which will be communicated to you at the time of application.

If the wait list reaches 150% of our coaching capacity, applications will be put on hold until more spaces become available. Those updates will be visible on our website.

Services won’t stop abruptly. You and your coach will complete forms indicating which continued services are desired and/or recommended.  Recommendations may be made based on availability of providers.  Some of the possibilities include continued one-on-one life coaching, group coaching or health or nutrition services, etc.

We are always looking for additional coaches to partner with.  Please view our partners page for more information.
